Pretty soon after the 2.2.4 release, Magento is already coming out with another 2.2.5 release. Clearly, Magento is developing hard with Magento 2 and taking the community very seriously. Good news!
There are fewer functional changes in this release, but a lot of points raised by users, developers and Magento parties have been picked up. They have also applied bug fixes and taken additional security measures.
Below are the key updates:
- In the Magento 2.2.5 version, several security improvements have been made targeting vulnerabilities that can be used for cross site scripting and SQL injections. Cross site scripting is the insertion of malicious code into the Magento webshop and SQL injection is a database hack that allows data to be extracted or edited from a database.
- Improvements have been made to a number of issues users experienced when upgrading to Magento 2.2.4.
- Major improvements to indexing speed. Indexing is used by a Magento webshop to spread data across different tables, allowing faster loading of data by the user at the front end.
- Improvements in core bundled extensions
- Shipping
- Choose carriers for returns and include a shipping label
- Batch processing makes it easier to process large quantities of shipments in batches
- Collection points - Here customers can choose a delivery point
- Points from the community
- Customers can create an account from the order confirmation page
- The way coupon codes work are now applied in the same way to bundled products. A functionality we use a lot with our Magento B2B webshops and forms the basis for a product configurator
- Catalog promo price rules are now included when sorting simple products
- And more than 150 additional points picked up
