Case: Hoogvliet cake shop

For Hoogvliet, it was time to take the old pastry shop in hand. It had been standing for several years and needed an update, both visually and functionally! Together with Hoogvliet, we worked hard to set up a beautiful new pastry shop that is up to date again and serves the customer better functionally.

Hoogvliet now has almost 70 supermarkets, making it impossible to imagine the industry, especially in the west of the country. Hoogvliet has its own bakery, from which fresh products roll out every day, including delicious pastries! Customers must be able to order their pastries online, which they must then be able to pick up at a branch of their choice on the desired day! The challenge was to streamline this process to the maximum so that everyone could pick up their pastries on time.

Magento 2 as a basis

With Magento 2 as a base, we had plenty of opportunities to create links to various external systems. To fill the shop, a link was made with Hoogvliet's product information system. An update is run every night to automatically add new products, or update if there are changes in ingredients or nutritional values, for example.

Completing the order

Once the customer has loaded his or her desired products into the shopping cart, checkout can take place. In the checkout, we have implemented a shop locator functionality that fills in the correct pick-up location based on the customer's current location, based on postcode or city or based on the customer's choice of shop. Also, the information of the Hoogvliet supermarkets where you can pick up your order comes from an external link to an information system that contains all shop information, combined with a link of the order schedule so the customer can see on which days you can pick up your order at which specific store. In this way, the customer is always informed with the most up-to-date information, and Hoogvliet does not have to take extra steps in providing information.

After placing an order, an EDI message is generated from the Magento system on Hoogvliet's server, which in turn is imported by the bakery's order system. Thus, the order flows from Magento 2 to the bakery who can handle the order further. The cake is on its way!

The moment the cakes arrive in the morning, the branch managers log into their account to be able to indicate which of the orders they have actually received, and which have been picked up by customers. Now there is an overall view of the whole order and clarity that the order has been successfully completed.

Cake configurator

As icing on the cake (yes, fun), we got to implement a photo cake designer together with Hoogvliet. Here, you can upload your own image and add text to a cake so you can order your own custom cake! In addition to the order message, the bakery then receives a message with the image in it generated by the system so they know which cake your beautiful creation should end up on.

There are still some wonderful updates on the way, so keep an eye on us and/or Hoogvliet's pastry shop!
